Enforcer Sergeant

Summary

The Enforcer Sergeant (sometimes called Feral’s Sergeant or simply The Sergeant) was an able-bodied and loyal Enforcer officer, never identified by name. The Sergeant is completely loyal to Commander Feral and always follows his orders without question. A kat of few words, the stern Sergeant normally says nothing more than, “Yes, sir!” in response to Feral’s commands.

The Sergeant’s first chronological appearance was when he assisted Feral in trying to solve the mystery of the missing body of Dr. Elrod Purvis (it was later revealed that Purvis had been revived as the mutant Dr. Viper). Later he tried to arrest the Pastmaster as he came out of the Megakat City Museum of History with the Tome of Time, and was almost stepped on by a Megasaurus Rex for his troubles.

He was at Feral’s side during the siege of the Megakat Tower, and when Dark Kat and the Metallikats teamed up with Dr. Viper, he played chicken with the Metallikat Express in his tank and lost. He bailed out as the Metallikats’ armored hovercraft slammed into the tank and knocked it over.

When Feral was captured by Madkat and Lieutenant Commander Steele took over as Commander of the Enforcers, the Sergeant grudgingly followed Steele’s orders but often openly criticized his poor leadership skills.

During Mutilor’s attempt to steal all of Megakat City’s water, the Sergeant was dispatched to personally look for the missing Felina Feral, but although he only found her crashed jet and bazooka. Since then the Sergeant has played only minor roles in the Enforcers’ efforts to protect Megakat City, all but replaced by Lieutenant Feral as Commander Feral’s most trusted aide.

Like Feral and Felina, a version of the Sergeant appeared (albeit briefly) in the “Dark Universe” the SWAT Kats were hurled into after being struck by a bolt of lightning. Like Feral and Felina, this version of the Sergeant appeared to be identical to the one in the “normal” universe.

The Sergeant was voiced in all of his appearances prior to Enter the Madkat by Ed Gilbert. For unknown reasons, from Enter the Madkat onward he was voiced by Jim Cummings. It should be noted that there are numerous other officers in the Enforcers who wear uniforms similar to the Sergeant, but whether they are also sergeants or hold different ranks is unknown. Adding to the confusion is that in Enter the Madkat and Katastrophe, the Sergeant looks different than he does in any of his other appearances; however it is clearly the same officer, due to the distinctive droll Jim Cummings gives the character.
