Lever-Action Shotgun (Winchester 1887)
In Civilian Weapons
Ammunition: 12 gauge
Capacity: 6 shells
Cost: $600
Considered the first truly successful repeating shotgun, using the signature Winchester level-action.
Although a technically sound gun series, the market for a lever-action shotgun waned considerably after the introduction of the pump-action shotgun. Model 1887 production totaled 64,855 and 79,455 for the 1901 before that model was discontinued in 1920.
This model can still be readily found in use by many small business proprietors such as restauranteurs, bartenders or truck drivers who favor the smaller size of the lever action shotgun for easy concealment or storage behind countertops, adjacent to cash registers or in-between seats.
